HDMI transmitters and receivers are starting to appear. This means no long cable from your receiver to your projector. But suppose they put wireless HDMI transmitters in Blu-ray players and the receiver in your surround sound receiver? Maybe wireless transmission of the SSP output to speakers with built-in power amplifiers that include the DAC to decode the transmitted signal for that channel? The only cables required would be the AC for each component (including the powered speakers).
I don’t know much about this so you will have to excuse me - how much do you think this will affect the quality? I love wireless anything and everything but it seems like it takes them a bit before they rid of the lag time - and how long do you think until they full proof it?
The technology is already available. I saw it in action at CES two years ago, and one company already offers wirelss HDMI that handles 1080p up to 30 feet which should take care of most home theater rooms (distance from equipment rack to the projector would likely be about 12 - 15 feet).
I seem to recall that there were several competing standards for sending wireless HD video, one of which was HDMI. Personally, I think it will be a boon for the front projector market, especially in situations where the consumer doesn't want to pull HDMI cable from the projector to the rack.
