As someone that cringes at the amount of compression applied by the local cable company to HD signals, I'm not sure how I'll respond to the amount of compression Youtube will apply to its "1080p" stream.

I'm not sure where the balance between resolution and compression is, but I would think that the stream needs to be well north of 12 Mbps for 1080p to be acceptable to my eye.

And then some. I think I've got some 720p material which is just good enough at about 12.
