"It seems odd that both recievers should start humming at about the same time. Have you looked for other likely culprits like power cords crossing speaker cords or inter connects ? Florescent lights and reostats can also sometimes contribute to hum."

Thanks for clearing up the MJQ and Desmond questions. I already placed both rec's on my to buy list at CDconncection.com. FWIW: that site seems to have better strong jazz selections, prices better than Amazon, and if ordering enough (currently $50) shipping is free.
