Hmmm... I'm a big Rush fan. I like a lot of Yes (but dislike a lot, too) as well as Genesis. A friend tried to get me into Dream Theater, but I just couldn't get into them. I've never (for shame) given King Crimson a listen. You've piqued my inte...

Compared to the earlier release on CD....very impressive. I think I prefer the MLP stereo (24/96) over the surround version, but it is by far the best sounding version to date. I have "Fragile" in DVD-A and it is one of my favorites.

My preferences ran more towards Yes and Genesis; but tell me, how does the remastered KC sound?

This band was described as the "greatest rock band ever" by Jimmi Hendricks....they made one studio album....played 70 concerts and lasted 355 days before splitting up....and created "progressive rock".

Newly remastered in 5.1 and lossless stereo by Fripp and Steve Wilson. Incredible sound improvement!

Tell us about your Listening Room
My room is roughly 10X10, acoustically treated and dedicated to home theater and audio. My wife has given me free reign in its design and setup (so no flowers or Hummel figurines on my speakers). 3 red leather reclining seats allow us to enjoy an occasional flick and view the Boston Red Sox in HD.

Tell us about you....job,hobbies,family,etc.
I am in charge of the nuclear medicine department @ the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA (thus the Radioactive Man logo across the top of my page). I have been in this field for nearly 20 years. My passion is in audio, with video being a close second. I enjoy classical music and am a devotee of Bach and organ music in particular. I have learned over time that a quality system does not have to cost tons of cash...but in this pursuit, I am always on the prowl for tweaks and upgrades. I am married (almost 30 years now) with 3 children, two of which are still in college. I live on the beach, just south of the NH border. Reviewing/testing new A/V products is a tough job, but someone has to do it. When I review a product, I am also looking at the "bang for the buck"...because I remember what it is like to be a "newbie" and on a budget. Remember, in the CAVE you can feel free to ask any questions...we are here to help!
Do you prefer MP3 or high definition audio?
High resolution audio rocks!

What's up with Digital Cinema?

Recently I got to play with a 2K DLP projector for a week. Besides some amazing upconversion on standard DVDs, I got to see first hand how new all digital movies are being shipped and displayed at the local movie house. For the digital movies, there are no more "ammo cases" being shipped around the country… Continue

Locking in on HDMI cables

I know that many people have complained about the annoying issue with HDMI cables falling out or not fitting into components properly. Others have reported that the cables work themselves loose, especially if they are hanging off the bottom of a flat screen panel mounted on the wall. Other companies have introduced locking mechanisms that screw on, or secure the cable with some type of adapter...but these have often proved to be cumbersome to use at best. While at CEDIA this past week, I was give… Continue

CEDIA summation- Jim Milton

Here are my final (and brief) thoughts on CEDIA 2009:

A quick summation of CEDIA ( not scientific, just my impressions):
1) 3D is impressive, but I feel it is too gimmicky to last (unless AVATAR is really awesome this Christmas!)
2) If you are thinking of a flat panel bigger than 50 inches, consider a projector. They are cheaper and better than ever...and nothing screams home theater louder than a projector.
3) Speakers come in all shapes and sizes and no one speaker fits the bill for everyone… Continue

CEDIA show report: Day 3 Jim Milton

Just came back from the H-PAS demo from Atlantic Technologies. Imagine 2 four inch drivers and a soft dome tweeter in a 5X7X32 in. cabinet outputting bass down to 32Hz...without electronic manipulation and no sub. This Fall, they will be marketing this new technology. My initial impression was that this could be a really big thing. They played a clip of the organ CD I had of Pictures at an Exhibition transcribed for the organ by Gulliou. I have listened to it many times with… Continue

CEDIA report day 2- Jim Milton

Exhausted...but I am going to blog if it kills me (it probably wont). Had lunch with Dan Laufman (Emotiva)...apparently Lonnie Vaughn was on an anniversary tour to Disneyland. Some exciting stuff coming from Emotiva soon. I have been sworn to secrecy by Dan on some possible upcoming projects, but suffice it say, Dan will not produce a product that screams "me too".
Had a chat with the people at Earthquake, which is not just a subwoofer designer/maker. I got a chance to budge one of their… Continue
