Hmmmmmm......I was thinking more along the lines of having some experts pen articles for Cosmoplitan or Architectural Digest with titles like:
Standing Waves and Cellulite: A Direct Correlation?
Bass Traps Also Eliminate Dust
Room Resonance Cause...
My home theater/living room is in desperate need of some room treatments as it is a reverbatorium. Hardwood floors, drywall, glass, and leather furniture. Not a damn thing to absorb any reflections, other than my dog. The problem for me is WAF/SAF...
Second thought...........one of the benefits of digital recordings is that the noise floor is typically extremely low, often vanishingly low. So, while knowing that I had an increased noise floor might be annoying, there is a good chance that it m...
It's remarkable how sad I feel about the passing of a man I never met. Thiel speakers have always been a part of high end audio, from the very first time I learned that high end existed. His designs were routinely unique and highly regarded. I hop...
Title: Giving the Boss Grief for not taking me to CEDIA (or How to get fired from Secrets)
Nice coverage!
Just a quick question. I thought that the primary function of speaker stuffing was to add virtual volume (i.e. make the enclosure behave as...
Actually, that photo was just my playing around with Photo Shop. There was a magazine that showed you how take a color portrait and applying some filters, make it look mysterious. The result was that picture.
Sorry for being so cryptic, Kieran. It was a late night after a long day........
My kids were marvelling at Dan Bartlett's image (new Secret's member) so I showed them John E. Johnson's photo under the "I don't call 911" banner. They almost cried...
Here's an interesting report on the subject and a plea to restore dynamic range to all types of recordings.

I remember those canon blasts causing my stylus to skip right across the record, back...
My home theater consists of an Anthem AVM30 processor, three Bryston 7B-ST monoblocks driving the front and center channels, and a Bryston 8B-ST driving the surrounds. My front speakers are Genesis APM-1s and the center channel and surrounds are Genesis 700s and 750s. I just replaced my Denon 3910 multiplayer with an OPPO BDP-83. I'm currently between projectors, but lusting for a new JVC. All balanced and single ended interconnects are Bryston and speaker wire is DIY Belden. And yes, a 50 foot HDMI cable runs through it, much to the chagrin of my otherwise perfect wife.
Tell us about your Listening Room
I have a lot of listening rooms. I'm a Buy and Hold kinda guy so some of this stuff dates back to the Jurassic era but I like to have music just about everywhere. My family room has a Denon 3808 receiver fed by a PS3, XBox 360, Wii, Sony BX1 Blu-Ray player, Starchoice 530 PVR, all feeding a 52 Sony 120 Hz 1080P LCD. My exercise room, which I visit religiously every January, has a Perreaux 2150B amp, a Perreaux SA3 preamp, a SystemDek IIX turntable, Yamaha CD player, DBX 3BX dynamic range expander, all feeding ProAC Tablette 2000 speakers. My garage has DIY electrostatic speakers based on Shoji screens, perforated metal, Hallmark giftwrap and JBL E120 woofers providing the bass, all driven by a Bryston 4B and Bryston 0.5 preamp. My man cave has a Nakamichi System One driving KEF104/2 speakers. This is a really cool, old school system with two 620 amps. Another room has an Marantz AV9000, Rotel RMB-1075 and AV123 speakers. Still have my Cerwin Vega D-9s. My shed stereo has .........you get the idea. I've opted for multiple systems over one killer system and I have no regrets.
Tell us about your equipment
I just did. Therefore, I will ignore this request from the Department of Redundancy Department, other than to say that all of this equipment is guarded by an underfed Rottweiler with AIDS and a DIY alarm system that emits groin-seeking radiation.
Tell us about you....job,hobbies,family,etc.
I'm a scientist/professor by day (and some nights) studying and teaching cardiac electrophysiology. I have a beautiful wife who puts up with all my insanity even though we differ by about 10-20 dB on acceptable volume levels. I have three amazing daughters (10 and a pair of 8's) who are all in competitive gymnastics, meaning we have no life. Fondly and vaguely remembered hobbies include woodworking, speaker building, and car restoration. Still play softball and golf, where I have bonafide tour distance off the tee and a recalcitrant 20 handicap. Fish fear me although I can't filet to save my life. I coined the phrase "Not every fish has a filet" after a particularly bad demonstration.
