I just got this the other day and think it is pretty cool. Has a built in 192/24 DAC. Now I can play hi-rez audio from my iPhone4 directly into my main stereo equipment. Less than $95. Sweet!

Well, the Gen 1 Apple TV has not been playing as nicely with my gear as it used to (I used to be able to download 1080p content from iTunes and set it to playback at 720p for the Gen 1 Apple TV, but it doesn't want to cooperate and I refuse to download iTunes content at less than 1080p, so I got a Gen 3 Apple TV and will be installing it soon).
Actually, my next purchase is a custom-built computer that will maximize video capability. It is being built as I write, and it has an EVGA GeForce GTX 680 video card, 32 GB quad channel RAM, i7 six-core processor that can be overclocked to 4.2 GHz, and three Plextor 256 GB Solid Stage Drives. One drive for the OS, and two in RAID 0 for programs. The video card has two DVI-D outputs for two monitors, and an HDMI out to drive a display for movies.
Comment by Jim Milton on April 22, 2012 at 2:49pm Can you get local news and weather with Hulu? the information on there website doesn't really tell you much.
Comment by Jim Milton on April 20, 2012 at 8:44am I plan on dumping SAT in the next month. All my TV viewing will be via ROKU with Hulu Plus. A truly remarkable device, that ROKU!
Well I cut the cable cord and got the Sony SMP-N100 network player (only one I found with component video out). Netflix, Hulu Plus and an antenna are my new friends. Only been a couple weeks, but so far so good. Also just purchased the USB antenna adapter for the Boxee. Should have it hooked up soon! The interface takes some getting used to, but enjoying all the old Cheers and Frasier episodes!
New(ish) toy--Apple TV (Gen 1). Got it for free from a buddy who decided he wanted more streaming app options available on the 2nd generation. I was at his place this past weekend and noticed his Gen 2 box was uninstalled. He'd been unable to get it to work with his HT setup so I installed it and earned the Gen 1 as "payment". The apps he wanted from Gen 2 I have on my PS3 anyway (Netflix being the most important). In every other way, the Gen 1 works fine with my all Apple gear (MacBook Pro, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch, iTunes for computer A/V files). Gen 1 even has one advantage (small one, but still nice) over later generations--the built-hard drive. Allows me to transfer stuff from iTunes to the drive and not have to keep the computer and iTunes on all the time.
Comment by Jim Milton on February 23, 2012 at 1:31pm Recently added a Yamaha RX-A1000 to my HT. I also picked up a Cambridge Audio DVD99 so I could have DVD-A playback via HDMI and take advantage of both the sub EQ Antimode 8033 and the YPAO room EQ for my speakers. Though the DVD99 also plays SACDs, I find my PS3 more flexible for SACD playback.
The above additions allowed me to move my old AVR (Integra DTR 6.4--still going strong after 8 years so I hope my new Yamaha does the same) to my living room, where I added a nice pair of PSB Imagine B standmount speakers. My now venerable Marantz DV6400 SACD/DVD-A player moved upstairs as well.
My next gear purchase will likely be a pair of outdoor speakers for the deck, as part of the A1000's zone 2. May not happen until next year (2013) though. Further down the line, I'll probably upgrade my sub and move the current one upstairs. No rush on that either.
